St Peter’s has roots as far back as 627 AD, and combines its historic tradition with innovative and dynamic teaching.
The school boasts outstanding academic results: almost a third of GCSE pupils achieved straight A*/A grades in 2012, while 87% of Sixth Form students achieved grades A*-B, and the school achieved a record of 25% A* pass rate.
With these fantastic results on their record, students go on to study at world-ranked institutions that include Harvard and Oxbridge. The combination of hands-on teaching and a full curriculum contribute to well-rounded learning.
Students in the sixth form in particular are able to have much closer relationships to professors, and are encouraged to develop intellectual curiosity around their subjects.
This prepares them for University study, and the school welcomes new students on board for these crucial last two years of education.
There is plenty of time for development outside of the classroom. As Head Master Leo Winkley himself puts it “School should be serious fun”, and St Peter’s is committed to allowing pupils to explore a varied range of interests.
Students are expected to participate in a required minimum number of extra-curricular activities, which cover everything from sports to drama and cadet camp.
When they aren’t absorbed in their studies, playing in the school orchestra or making the most of the schools ample art and science facilities, students relax with friends in their boarding house common room.
There are ten houses in total, and these provide the base for both boarding and day pupils. In-house tutors monitor each student’s progress and wellbeing, whilst house parents create a fun and welcoming environment.
