Location
The International School of Milan is located right in the middle of Baranzate, just few kilometres from the centre of Milan. As this is the oldest established school in Milan, its location is well known to locals and is a prestigious landmark of the city.
Overview
International School of Milan has always been linked with strong academic culture in all their endeavours and for more than 50 years, they have served the international education community and the Italian community as well. With their mission set at achievement and opportunity for all, the students are taught to be confident enough to have their own place in this world of competition.
The institution was founded in 1958 by Mr. and Mrs. Formiga. While it started out small, it now hosts over 1000 students belonging to 68 different nationalities and a staff of 130 teachers. The infrastructure itself is known for its innovative, sustainable and user-friendly nature. This is the largest campus on the grounds of Milan and supports the International theme required to create global citizens.
In September 2013, a modern campus was inaugurated to stay in tune with the changing times. A functional bus service is provided for the student’s everyday use. The school currently has pupils ranging from 2 to 18 years old and this creates the sense of varied population which helps the children adapt to real-world conditions.
Core Values
The school core values include high standards, international values and active citizenship, which are experienced by the students every day and coordinated by an excellent team of professional staff and educational leaders.
Academics
The basis of education at IS Milan goes way beyond the scope of a rigid curriculum as it is based on an IB (International Baccalaureate) education. In all institutes of higher learning around the world, this basis of education meets the high standards of each one of them through disciplinary and interdisciplinary understanding.
The curriculum frameworks associated with IB courses are thoroughly connected, conceptual, balanced, and offer a broad scope. Students through this framework learn the group dynamics that are evolved continuously with evolving teaching paradigms. The Early Years section revolves around kindergarteners ranging from 2.5 to 5 years. The learning is focused on their physical and emotional needs in an avant-garde environment.
From 3 to 11, the primary section offers a rich simulating experience which creates enthusiasm for learning required during higher learning. From primary years to the age of 16, the students follow the Middle School programme which holds a middle position of embracing and transcending traditional subjects.
High School lasts for 4 years which is fairly traditional but it is divided into two distinct phases. Phase 1 includes completing middle school education and Phase 2 is completely focused on completing the IB Diploma which is a course accepted all over the world. This way, students graduating from IS Milan are truly ready to make their mark in the real world.
Extracurricular Activities
The campus offers a wide range of amenities required for complete learning such as gymnasium, swimming pool, auditorium, two libraries, laboratories for IT activities, theatre, art workshops, dedicated music areas, and green areas for games and other sports. A series of after-clubs are present on campus to help students nurture their talents and passions at an early age; hence, completing their development through education and play.
