Dr Rachid’s clinic resides in the heart of downtown Geneva, just one block from its glistening lake. Patients can arrive from the Geneva Airport in just 15 minutes by taxi. A wide selection of hotels resides nearby, with options to cater for every budget and taste.
Profile:
Dr Rachid provides a personalised treatment regime to cater to the patient’s individual needs. Alternative treatments for depression and anxiety blend psychotherapy and psychopharmacology to achieve optimal results.
Fields of specialisation:
Dr Rachid has been practising his core speciality, Repetitive Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation, at his private Geneva clinic since 2007.
1. Repetitive Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation (rTMS)
Dr Rachid’s clinic is one of the only places in Switzerland to offer rTMS. He now boasts 20 years of rTMS experience, making him a world leader in the field.
This research-driven, evidence-based approach is particularly effective at relieving treatment-resistant disorders including Treatment Resistant Depression (TRD).
When a patient has TRD, their illness does not respond to traditional pharmacological and psychotherapeutic treatments. Therefore, rTMS is often the only effective way to combat the disease.
The state-of-the-art technique involves using a pulsed electromagnetic field to stimulate specific parts of the brain and achieve strategic alterations. By modulating the activity of neural networks, Dr Rachid can alleviate numerous neuropsychiatric and neurological disorders.
The painless, non-invasive therapy is commonly used in the world’s most prestigious medical centres, including Yale and Harvard University.
The American FDA has approved rTMS to treat Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder (OCD) and Treatment-Resistant Depression (TRD). However, the therapy can also be used for medication intolerant disorders with promising results against a variety of conditions, including:
2. Transcranial Direct Current Stimulation (tDCS)
When rTMS isn’t appropriate, Dr Rachid may draw on his expertise with Transcranial Direct Current Stimulation (tDCS). This cutting-edge approach effectively treats conditions like moderate depression, mild cognitive disorders, and Attention Deficit Disorder (ADD).
Like rTMS, tDCS is a non-invasive and completely painless approach that stimulates specific parts of the brain, albeit through direct current rather than an electromagnetic field.
3. Psychopharmacology
Dr Rachid received a Sub-Specialty traning from Yale University in Psychopharmacology and has extensive knowledge and experience in managing medications.
4. Psychotherapy
Dr Rachid also incorporates Psychotherapeutic treatments, at times to complement rTMS.
One such example is Schema therapy (ST), which Dr Rachid uses to treat anxiety, chronic mood disorders, and personality disorders. ST is an integrative method combining Gestalt therapy, cognitive behavioural therapy, and attachment and object relations theories.
When appropriate, Dr Rachid may use Interpersonal Psychotherapy to treat depression stemming from career transitions or disputes, grief, and social isolation.
