Riffelalp Resort 2’222M Zermatt

While our trip was cut short by the Coronavirus, the staff was fantastic as usual. We always feel at home at the Riffelalp. This was our 8th year and we look forward to returning next year.

We're big fans of the Riffelalp Hotel - the location is wonderful, the rooms are beautiful, and it's a unique experience to be able to ski in and ski out so easily. We were quite surprised by the front office team on arrival, who did everything to accommodate our special wish of being in a matterhorn-facing room in the main building (vs. the historic building where the rooms aren't as cozy and the spa is further away). Lea went above our expectations, and that simple room change made our overall experience so much better. However, what is a shame was the check out with Hannes: After spending CHF 2'000+ for two days, we were not asked how our stay was or our time in Zermatt. It was a very strict procedure to pay the rest of the invoice that had to be paid. But he was kind so I just let it go.... However, after a day of skiing and 2.5 hour drive back home ahead of us, I asked for two bottles of water as we receive in each hotel upon check out (even the 3 and 4 star!) The answer? It costs an extra CHF 3 per bottle... I have to say that was really shocking after the amount we spent. It kind of felt like now that we paid we were no longer important, we could just leave. The hotel should really rework their check out policy as this is the last memory a guest holds of the hotel... and even if the rest of the stay was wonderful, this can really stain the experience. Moreover, what will clients tell their friends and family? This anecdote.
