Located in the middle of Ghent, tucked between the Graslei and Grain Market, 1898 The Post Belgium is complete with gigantic gothic-style 54-metre clock tower.
The neo-gothic building which houses the luxury boutique hotel was designed by architect Louis Cloquet in 1898, and one of its beautiful features is the clock tower, where couples and lovers can spend a romantic night together.
The tower has been renovated to an octagonal duplex suite with panoramic 360-degree views of the surrounding. Apart from the clock tower, the intricate exterior of the building is studded with escutcheons and statutes.
1898 The Post Belgium has 37 rooms and suites, decorated in an elegant and welcoming style with sloped roofs or high ceilings, and antique furniture which complements the building’s ancient architecture.
The rooms are distributed on the two floors and are given titles that reflect the post-office theme such as an Envelope Room, a Letter Room, and Postcard Room.
The suites including the romantic octagonal Tower suite and the spectacular loft offers stunning views of the city. The rooms and suites feature free WIFI, king-size beds, modern technology, and other luxury amenities.
The Carriage Room brings to remembrance the horse-drawn carriages that were used in delivering the post when the Post Office was opened.
1898 The Post provides a cosy and intimate space on the first floor in its F&B outlet with open fireplace for guests to wine and dine.
During the day it is ‘The Kitchen’ with breakfast and afternoon tea to accommodate relaxation or working space, allowing guests to work from it.
In the evening it becomes The Cobbler – a cocktail bar with an ambience that reminds us of the atmosphere in the past.
Guests can enjoy stunning views of Ghent while being attended by world-class bartenders who serve a selection of delicacies, fine tapas, and creative cocktails.
The central location of the hotel makes it a perfect base for sightseeing.
One of the most interesting places to visit is the Graslei, a quay on the bank of the Leie River in the centre of Ghent.
It has become a hotspot for tourists with a concentration of historical buildings and café patios.
