Who wouldn’t want a beautiful athletic figure? Annoying fat deposits form easily and unfortunately, they rarely disappear again. Dr. Deniel Kish, a cosmetic surgeon from the Aesthetic Center in Zurich, shares his opinions on the subject.

Dr. Kish, what is generally meant by liposuction?
Liposuction is among the most popular and successful treatments in aesthetic medicine. Simply put, the procedure removes excess fat from problem areas such as the hips, legs or stomach and harmonises the overall body silhouette.Who would you recommend liposuction to?
It depends on an individual’s personal desires and environment and many other components. If, for example, sports or long-term changes in diet don’t produce the desired results, liposuction can achieve results quickly and easily, leading to a lasting improvement in body image.Which method do you recommend?
We specialise mainly in laser and ultrasonic liposuction. With our Smart / Laser Lipo and VASER (ultrasound) methods – which, incidentally, are extremely popular in the U.S. - the fat is removed gently without damaging the tissue, muscles or nerves. How does the liposuction procedure work?
Operations are carried out under local anaesthesia, with a small micro-cannula that is just 1 -3 mm in diameter, which means the fat cells are simply and easily melted away. This type of technique is very successful, and guarantees excellent results with hardly any swelling or pain, perhaps with the exception of a slight soreness.
In our Aesthetic Center we achieve far better results than with the traditional tumescent liposuction technique, where the fat cells are initially broken up using a liquid and subsequently removed with some effort from the connective tissue structures.
However, in my experience, this method is not nearly as effective as the high-tech treatments with laser or ultrasound.

What results can patients expect?
Firstly, a patient has the right to the most comprehensive individual advice possible, so that he is in a good position to decide on the appropriate method of liposuction for him.Assuming the operation is correctly carried out by a specialist, a patient can expect an aesthetically pleasing result about 6 weeks after a simple operation. That’s our job, and we work hard to achieve it.
Is there usually any scarring after the operation?
As a general rule, scarring is kept to a minimum because we rely on minimally invasive techniques and make the smallest incisions possible. However, the patient is also responsible for their own healing to some extent, and should avoid sunbathing or using saunas or solariums for at least six weeks.
Even after this period, the affected areas should still be protected from direct sunlight with a high sun protection factor, which prevents changes to the pigment in scar tissue, and will eventually help the scars to heal to invisibility.
How much does liposuction cost?
The cost of cosmetic surgery procedures is particularly difficult to predict, since the cost and the time needed for surgery and treatments are often highly dependent on the individual needs and requirements of the patient and can therefore vary considerably. It would therefore be unprofessional, in my view, to name a price at this point, without having had a consultation with the patient.
However, I am certain that our Aesthetic Center in Switzerland is competitively priced, when you take into account both our prices and our high standards of performance.
